Weekend roundup: surprise show
We’re excited for this upcoming weekend folks! Two great music shows back to back, including one surprise show. We hope you can come visit!
*We start off tonight March 9 with the vernissage for our Artists of the Month for March. DANICA OLDERS & VANESSA MADELY. Reception runs from 6pm to 9pm. See facebook event here.
*Tomorrow, Saturday March 10, we have MIKE O’NEILL & THE GOLDEN SEALS performing at the cafe. The former Inbreds frontman will be playing tunes from his newly released record “Wild Lines”. Doors are at 8:30pm and price is $10. Facebook event here.
*Sunday March 11, we have a surprise show for you and an early one at that. JIM BRYSON & JEREMY FISHER will be performing an intimate show at Raw Sugar to finish off their mini Ontario tour. The show will see them sharing the stage, trading off on one another’s songs and adding a flourish if the moment strikes. Doors at 7pm and show start at 8pm sharp. Price is $10 at the door. March is just around the corner, and we have a few events coming up that we’re very excited about!
STARS ON 45 - CELEBRATING LOCAL DJs
Who said Ottawa was boring?! This town has some great dance nights made possible by a number of very talented local DJs. Our monthly DJ crew STARS ON 45 are back this Saturday March 3, and they are celebrating local DJs by lining-up 13 guests who will spin 15 minute sets, all night long! Participating DJs include: dj jas nasty / dj zattar / dj memetic / dj eric roberts / dj hobo / dj sweet cheeks / eric schallenburg / jim dooley / dj magnificent / dj skilz (jason p.) / Bill / Bijon / Ben A. / dj d-mass - plus your hosts DJ Daisy and Chris International.
MIKE O’NEILL w/ THE GOLDEN SEALS
We are very happy to have MIKE O’NEILL (a man who’s music career began with the seminal indie-rock act The Inbreds) play at Raw Sugar on Saturday March 10. His new record “Wild Lines” is dropping tomorrow - Southern Souls calls it his “pop masterpiece” and we do not disagree. Rounding up the show is local taskmaster Dave Merritt and his group THE GOLDEN SEALS. Not to be missed!

We kicked off the week with a fantastic show by NAT BALDWIN on Sunday, and what a wonderful show it was. You could hear a pin drop! Thanks to LANDON A.R. COLEMAN for his opening set, and Spectrasonic and Punkottawa.com for presenting.
This morning, the video crew for Ottawa’s SILKKEN LAUMANN came in for one of their video shoots for what will be the trio’s second single. Thanks to everyone who came out early this morning; we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product!
We’re soldering on tonight with music by MONOMYTH and HAUNTED HOMES. The show is presented by Bruised Tongue and kicks off at 8pm. Facebook event is here.

Be an extra in Silkken Lauman’s video shoot at Raw Sugar!
Ottawa’s newest dance band SILKKEN LAUMAN will be shooting part of their new music video at Raw Sugar this Wednesday morning - and they are looking for you to come be an extra! As an extra, all you’ll have to do is sit around doing very little for the first hour, and then dance for a minute at a time to round things off.
Along with local businesses Victoire and Oz, we’re very happy to be one of the featured locations in the video. We look forward to see all y’all dancing around Raw Sugar, images of which will be immortalized in what is sure to be a brilliant looking video.

Raw Sugar’s monthly DJ night, Stars on 45, will happen on the first Saturday of every month starting in February! Every month, regular hosts DJ Daisy and Chris International invite special guests for a different themed night of vinyl spinning. On Saturday February 4, special guest is Wide-Eyed Sound System for a reggae and dancehall edition of Stars on 45.
